Powell River Kings put a halt to a seven-game losing streak by defeating defending BC Hockey League champion Prince George Spruce Kings 4-1 at Hap Parker Arena on Thursday, October 24.

Spruce Kings opened the scoring midway through the first period and held a 1-0 lead after 20 minutes.

Michael Abgrall and Jack Brackett set up the tying goal for the Kings, the fourth of the season for Jacob Slipec, at 11:43 of the second period.

Kings broke the deadlock with a third-period powerplay goal from Brackett, his second of the season. Jack Long and Davis Pennington assisted on the eventual winner.

Rowan Miller added an unassisted insurance marker with just over two minutes remaining in the game and Ben Wozney rounded out the scoring with an empty-net goal 27 seconds later. Brackett recorded his third point of the night with an assist on Wozney’s goal.

Kings’ goaltender Derek Krall stopped 25 of 26 shots and was named the game’s first star, ahead of Slipec (second) and Prince George assistant captain Nicholas Poisson (third), who scored the lone goal for the visitors.

Attendance at Hap Parker Arena was 789.

Kings play the second of back-to-back games tonight when the host Vernon Vipers. Game time is 7 pm.

On Friday, October 25, Kings announced a trade involving goaltender Matteo Paler-Chow.

Powell River acquired defender Jordan Hendry from Trail Smoke Eaters in exchange for Paler-Chow, who had been with the Kings since the 2017/2018 season.
