Regarding the article about improving handyDART services in Powell River [“Region’s transit system an area of concern for seniors,” October 3], both my sister and I have been regular users of this service and we feel the drivers have not only been friendly and helpful but have often gone beyond their duties to help us.

It is an unfair comment to say they need “sensitivity training.”

Perhaps users need to be taking lessons on how to be good passengers.

Drivers have noted that we need more vans. I used to work for Handi-Transit in Thunder Bay, Ontario, so I know how much they are needed everywhere as our population ages. No dispute there.

But be grateful for the drivers we have, who do a wonderful job and have been nothing but courteous and friendly to myself and my sister, and to other passengers we have met over the last five years.

We speak from experience, not rumours.
