Letter: Fractured bus service an insult to Powell River residents

Powell River Peak letter

Many residents of Powell River want to get our transportation service resumed the way it was 10 years ago when our population was much lower [“Coast Connector makes proposal to save Powell River bus route,” July 8].

The service started from Town Centre Hotel and carried on to Langdale, Horseshoe Bay, West Vancouver, Downtown Vancouver, and on to YVR, with a return trip each day around 3 pm.

This fractured “service” offered today to the residents of Powell River is an insult, only feasible for backpackers, certainly not the elderly, or families with luggage and children.

This should not be a moneymaker. This is a service that is not provided for us on the upper or lower Sunshine Coast. Grants are being distributed all over this town and this province, so why not for a service that is so desperately needed?

I have also been in touch with the Coast Reporter newspaper, from the lower Sunshine Coast, as well as Powell River-Sunshine Coast MLA Nicholas Simons’ office and the minister of transportation.

Petitions will be circulating in the next few weeks. Please sign this petition if you want our transportation resumed the way it was.
