Nanaimo clips Powell River Kings in overtime

Powell River Kings began their final road trip of the regular season on Saturday, February 15, and dropped a 2-1 decision to Nanaimo Clippers in overtime.

After a scoreless first period where Powell River outshot the hosts 15-11, Devin Leduc opened the scoring at 1:28 of the second period with his 17th goal of the BC Hockey League season to put the Kings up 1-0. Jacob Badal and Ben Wozney picked up assists.

The home team responded early in the third period, tying the score at one and forcing overtime when a shot bounced off a Nanaimo player and past Kings’ goaltender Derek Krall, who stopped 31 of 33 shots in the game.

Nanaimo goalie Jordan Naylor made 30 saves, earning the win when Ethan Scardina scored for the Clippers to end the game at 1:37 of overtime. 

Attendance at Frank Crane arena was 1906.

Kings play their final road game of the regular season in Victoria today. Game time at the Q Centre is 1 pm.

Powell River hosts Victoria for two games to close out the 2019/2020 campaign next weekend. Game times are 7 pm on Friday, February 21, and 5 pm on Saturday, February 22.
