Living in self-isolation might not be everyone’s cup of tea, but it is a reality for most during COVID-19 times. Some people still see their co-workers in the flesh, while others grind away, working from home and connecting via phone, text and video chats. Being alone or within a bubble is currently the safest way to live, but safety these days also equals undesired separation.
Featured in a North of Town Peak article, Lindberg farm caretaker Ken Beaubien is likely one of the safest people on the planet at the moment, with months passing at times without him coming into contact with anyone. No need for wearing a mask when alone in nature, no rules, no protocols or health guidelines to follow. Jealous?
Few have the means or opportunity to pick up and move to a place not easily accessed by others, and that comes surrounded with an abundance of natural options to satisfy an appetite. Even if the opportunity to live mostly off the land did present itself, how many people would choose to go it alone? Taking an entire bubble, whether it’s one mate or a family, might be a little more tempting.
For those with no other choice but to remain where they are and exist as best they can in the new normal, finding an escape that emulates in some small way what Beaubien has north of town is paramount while the pandemic continues to rage on.
