Powell River RCMP reported the following for July 30 to August 5, 2020.

Total calls for service: 158
Thefts: 7
Assaults: 5
Impaired driving: 11
Mischief: 3
Break and enter: 2

July 31; Powell River
Police received a complaint from a member of the public who had been called at home by “RBC Security” and told their credit card had been compromised. The individual was told to purchase a Google Play card and deposit money into a different bank account to rectify the situation. Police are working with the individual and the bank to investigate the fraud and potentially identify a suspect. Police are reminding the public to be wary of phone call scams related to credit cards and banking information.

August 3; Saltery Bay
At 10:55 pm, police responded to a complaint of a possible impaired driver leaving Saltery Bay heading into Powell River. Police located the vehicle in the area and commenced an impaired driving investigation. The driver provided two samples and was issued an administrative driving prohibition roadside, a 24-hour driving suspension and the vehicle was towed. A report to crown counsel will be forwarded requesting a charge approval for impaired driving.

August 1 to 3; Savary Island
RCMP received a number of calls about a planned party at South Beach on Savary Island over the August long weekend.  Information received from the public resulted in police speaking with the event organizer and the public health authority leading up to the planned event. Powell River RCMP and RCMP West Coast Marine Section attended Savary Island on Saturday August 1, 2020, and Sunday August 2, 2020. Police investigated noise complaints, liquor offences and traffic offences over the weekend.

August 2; Savary Island
RCMP attended to a mischief complaint on Savary Island on August 2, 2020. The report to police was that a vehicle had a tire punctured and the tire was deflated. Mischief to the vehicle appeared to be targeted and the damage intentional. Police obtained photos of the damage and are investigating.
