Powell River RCMP reported the following for February 20 to February 26, 2020.

February 20; Powell River
At approximately 12:30 am, police pulled over a black VW Tiguan. Observations of the officer led to the arrest of the driver. A subsequent search of the vehicle located cash, cell phones and drugs believed to be cocaine and MDMA. The vehicle was seized as proceeds of crime. This is the second time the VW has been associated with this type of crime.
February 24; Alberni Street, 7100 block
At approximately 8:20 am, police were dispatched to a theft. While speaking with the owner it was learned he had parked the vehicle at the location overnight and when he went to get into it the next morning he found the driver-side window had been smashed. $1.50 in change had been stolen from the cupholder. A brick was located inside the vehicle as was some blood. Samples were taken, which will be sent away to the forensic lab for DNA analysis.
February 24; Powell River
On February 24, a Powell River resident received a call from a female claiming she was from Easy Solutions, a computer security company. The caller advised that the resident had an outstanding contract with the company and the resident had one hour to pay or $4,800 would be withdrawn from her bank account. The resident took all the right actions and did not provide any personal details, hung up and then advised her bank. The suspect called back and left a very similar message. The caller had an Indian accent. Police want to warn the public that companies do not conduct business like this so it should set off warning bells. Also, another reminder is that gift cards and cryptocurrency is not a legitimate form of payment. If you receive a suspicious call, hang up and call the business or agency directly to confirm its legitimacy.
