Work has begun on City of Powell River’s north harbour boat ramp upgrading project. Construction on widening the ramp is scheduled to last six weeks.

According to a media release from the city, both north and south sides of the ramp are inaccessible for boat launch to accommodate work in tidal water all day on Monday, January 6, and Tuesday, January 7.

On Wednesday, January 8, the south half of the ramp is expected to reopen and will remain open until completion of the project. Only the south half of the ramp will be in use for boaters.

Overnight repairs will continue for approximately 10 days, then will shift to daytime hours for the remainder of the six-week timeline. Nearby residents can expect some noise for the duration of the upgrade project, according to the release.

There will be disruptions to traffic and access to the boat ramp area during the project. Flag and safety personnel will coordinate traffic, and signage is onsite.

The $200,000 upgrade is funded by Powell River Community Forest. Shaun Gloslee Excavating, of Powell River, is the contractor.
