BC Ferries uses Salish Eagle to cover Powell River/Texada sailings

BC Ferries has advised as of 2:40 pm on July 15 that the MV Island Discovery will not be sailing for the remainder of the day due to a mechanical difficulty.

According to a media release from BC Ferries, the ship is experiencing a problem with the cooling system for the main switchboard.

BC Ferries has confirmed that Quadra Queen II has been deployed to the Texada Island route in case Island Discovery cannot be deployed on July 16. The ship has arrived and crew clearances are being done to ensure the ferry will be ready if needed.

Water taxi service is available for foot passengers from the public dock located adjacent to Westview Terminal in Powell River and at Van Anda on Texada Island. The last departure from Westview Terminal will be 7:15 pm, and the last departure from Van Anda will be 7:30 pm.

The released stated that the Salish Eaglewill supplement service by operating on the following revised schedule: 

3:25 pm departing Little River (Comox)

4:45 pm departing Blubber Bay (Texada Island)

5:45 pm departing Westview Terminal (Powell River)

6:30 pm departing Blubber Bay (Texada Island)

8:10 pm departing Little River (Comox)

9:45 pm departing Westview Terminal (Powell River)
