A longtime, popular hub on Texada Island is just about ready to fully re-establish itself.

While it has continued to serve visitors and diners after a lengthy layoff, the Texada Island Inn is scheduled to also be ready to welcome overnight guests as early as this summer.

Located at 2002 Gillies Bay Road, the inn has a long history as a wonderful destination.

Cymry Morris should know. She’s been there for 32 years.

Two years ago, she bought the property from the original owners after a small fire closed the place down.

Cymry carried on the inn’s fine tradition of hospitality and embarked on wholesale renovations that started with the bar and then expanded to the kitchen, with new appliances, electrical work and re-decorating.

That once again made the inn the perfect destination for families, seniors, and visitors from all over, to come in, sit down, and be served a home-style meal at a reasonable price.

There were some nice, new touches, too. Cymry added a lobby that features a veritable art gallery packed with beautiful works by local artists.

Plus, to make things convenient, the inn even has a shuttle that can pick up and drop off visitors, so they don’t have to worry about driving home after a meal, or need a ride to and from the airport.

And with renovations soon about to begin on the 15 rooms, the inn is back on track.

That’s good news, since Texada Island is a busy destination, with tourists in the summer months and hunters starting in the fall.

“We have the longest season in B.C. for deer,” Cymry says, adding events such as Texada Sandcastle & Skim Jam Weekend (Aug. 3 & 4) bring in plenty of visitors during the summer months.

“The Blues and Roots Festival (July 27 & 28) is a well-established event, as well,” she says.

The inn’s transformation has been so dramatic that last year Cymry won the local chamber of commerce employer of the year award, something she says is owed to her hardworking staff.
