A nine-year-old Powell River boy who misses his friends and associates during the COVID-19 pandemic has been taking a message of hope to them.

Grayson Commons, a grade three student at Edgehill Elementary School, made a sign with his mother Danielle, and has been taking it to the front lawns of people such as his friends, teachers and grandparents, bearing the message: “This isn’t forever. Miss You. Love, Grayson.”

On April 9, Grayson, who has been taking his sign around town since March 13, went to visit his teacher Gerry Aasen, who said the sign was in the right spirit and a good example.

Grayson said he decided to take his sign around to friends and family because he likes to make people happy.

“The world right now is sick and it’s not in good shape,” said Grayson.

He said he has been having fun doing this and has been getting a good reaction from the people to whom he is showing the sign.

Grayson is careful to maintain his distance from those he seeks out to display his sign. He said it is great to see everyone again.

He is going to continue spreading his message around the community and there are still lots of people who he wants to see.

When asked if he was glad to bring smiles to people’s faces, Grayson responded: “Yep.”
