Powell River musician Ron Campbell is missing performing live, so instead of a performance in the public, he’s going to provide one for the community tonight online.

In a Facebook post, Campbell wrote that way back in the olden days (last week) he had a weekly dinner gig at the Seasider Bistro in Powell River.

“Of course, that's no longer possible, but I'm not gonna let a little ol' pandemic stop me from sharing my music with my peeps, especially when we're all stuck at home,” said Campbell.

So, on Wednesday, March 25 at 6pm, he’s going live on Facebook to bring everybody the same show.

“I recommend that you prepare yourself a delicious meal and a nice bevvie, then tune in here to enjoy the show,” said Campbell. “It'll be almost like being there! Of course the show is free, though there will be a virtual tip jar for those of you who want to show your appreciation.”

Campbell said this is all very new to him.

“I've been working all this week to try to figure out the technology and I think I've got it,” said Campbell. “Meantime, stay isolated, stay safe, stay positive and don't forget to smile.”

Campbell said he had toyed with the idea for a long time. He said the current situation with COVID-19 hit and he really thought this is the time to stop idly thinking about it and actually do it.

“I see a lot of musicians are doing the same thing,” said Campbell. “It’s what I do is play music in front of people. I think I have something to give that people want to receive.”

Campbell is planning a 45-minute show featuring blues standards and some of his own compositions.

“I’ll do the same as I’d do for the first set of my show out at the Seasider,” said Campbell. “It will just be me, sitting at the piano, singing some old songs and some I wrote myself. I’ll do my best to make an entertaining show.”

Campbell said he will be playing uplifting music, and playing the blues doesn’t mean dismal and sad.

“I’m always about the positive energy, particularly now,” said Campbell. “We can still connect. Thank heaven for modern social media and modern technology.”
