A holiday miracle

By Eli Conroy
Kelly Creek Community School

One winter day a homeless boy, Jack, and his mom were on a walk to the park. Jack said, look mom a giant ice sculpture shaped into Santa. Who cares, said his mom. Santa is a bad man.

No he’s not! cried Jack, he gives presents to the children.

Nonsense, yelled his mom, Santa is not real!

That is not true, Jack yelled as he ran to the tent.

When his mom came back to the tent she made Jack some toasty warm hot cocoa. Jack could smell the rich creamy chocolate. When his mom gave it to him he blew on it a few times then took a big gulp. Jack said, I will prove that Santa is real.

That night Jack left the tent to find Santa. When he was walking he saw a deer. It chased him. Jack ran into a snow storm. Up ahead he saw a big snow hill with a snow cave. He saw light so he ran into it. He got dizzy so he ran out of the cave and when he looked to see the deer it came out as a reindeer. When he looked around he saw a sign that said Santa’s house. When he went to Santa’s house somebody said are you looking for someone? There was Santa.

I need to bring you home to prove to my mom that you’re real.

No need said Santa, your mom is right there.

There was his mom. You’re right Jack. Santa is real.

The magical teddy bear

By Leighton Palmquist
Assumption School

The boys were looking in the attic for Christmas decorations, but they found nothing. They found a teddy bear but the one thing that they didn’t know is that it was magical. Right after they found the teddy bear their mom called them down to the kitchen. Gerald and Spirit came downstairs. Mom said, “I am so sorry, but we can’t afford any presents this year.” Gerald and Spirit quietly looking sad went upstairs to their room.

The boys’ rooms were connected by a tunnel and they were talking to each other in the tunnel. Spirit was saying, “I was really hoping that we could find Christmas ornaments in the attic, but all we found was that little teddy bear.”

Gerald said, “Well, the teddy bear is kinda cool. I suppose it is not really what you were hoping for.”

Spirit said loudly, “Look. The teddy bear is doing something!” It looked like it was making small Christmas wreaths and presents.

Gerald whispered, “Teddy Bear, can you make something for our mom?”

The teddy bear looked up at him and said, “What does your mom like?”

Spirit said, “Well, she does like flowers.”

“Okay,” said Teddy Bear. He got a whole bunch of sticks and leaves to make flowers.

Gerald and Spirit both said at the same time, “Thank you Teddy Bear.”

On Christmas there were presents for mom, Gerald and Spirit. What a great Christmas.

A warm place for winter

By Farran Pierce
Kelly Creek Community School

The snow is falling in a small town,

A little squirrel awoke with a frown,

The coldest season,

He always thought,

I wish I could escape it,

But one winter night,

An idea came to him,

I can sneak into a little house,

By following that little mouse,

I’ll collect some acorns to share with him,

I’ll put them in my pocket,

And they’ll fit snuggly and tight,

Just like in a locket,

So I’ll spend my winter nice and warm,

With that little mouse in a dorm.

The great Christmas tree

By Paxton Schreiber
Assumption School

“Mom are we going to get a Christmas tree this year?” asked Sara.

“No honey,” mom sighed.

“But…but…why?” Sara cried.

“Because we are not celebrating Christmas this year,” mom said.

Ring, ring, ring.

“One sec honey, let me pick up the phone. Oh no you ok bye”… sighed mom.

“Sara we need to talk.”

“What?”

“Your father did not make the last ferry home,” sighed mom.

Sara yelled, “Why does everything have to go wrong? It’s two days before and I just want a normal Christmas.”

Sara’s eyes were bawling and she ran as fast as she could outside. Sara started to stress-eat. She ate one pound of snow and then she just sat there and made snow angels.

“Sara, dinner time and we got a cabbage casserole.”

“Mom,” Sara quietly said.

“Yes honey.”

“Can we please have a Christmas tree?” Sara quietly said.

“I will think about it, but for now let’s eat some cabbage casserole, okay,” Sara’s mom said gently.

Sara sighed.

After dinner she went straight to bed and she had a nice dream. The dream was about Sara and Santa going and finding the biggest and the greatest Christmas tree. Guess what! In the morning Sara slept in and…her dad woke her up in the morning. He took the morning ferry home, he told her.

“Do you want to get a Christmas tree?”

“Yes, thank you, dad, let’s go.”

They saw so many trees, but one really stood out and they called it the great Christmas tree. It was perfect.
