Border Kings bounce back in series with Regals
NOT THIS TIME: Don Woodman tries to get the puck by Lloydminster goalie Ken Prior on the short side but the opening just wasn’t there. The Border Kings, backed by solid goaltending from Prior, bounced back on Sunday after being two games down in the Alberta/BC series and beat the Powell River Regals 6-2.
Another crucial contest for the Kings is in the offing tonight as they hope to extend the series to a fifth game tomorrow. George Chambers was the only Regal able to dent the twine Sunday as he picked up both tallies.
A moving tribute to the late Bob Muir was read before the game by alderman Norm Hill, followed by a silence. It was always a dream of Muir’s that Powell River’s Arena would host a Western Canadian playoff.
HISTORICAL NOTE: Powell River won game four over Lloydminster by a score of 7-2 to win the series 3-1 and advance to the Western Canadian Championship against Rosetown Redwings. Regals defeated Rosetown to advance to the Canadian final, where they hosted and bested Val'Dor, Quebec, claiming the Hardy Cup and the first of four national championships for the hockey club.
