Air Cadets

22 Red Knight Powell River Air Cadets meet between 6:30 to 9:30 pm Thursdays at Timberlane Barracks.

 

Chamber of Commerce

Choirs

Powell River Chorus holds rehearsals at 7:30 pm every Wednesday in James Hall at Powell River Academy of Music, 7280 Kemano Street. For information, call Janice Gunn at 604.485.3825.

 

Spirit of Community Choir gets together from 7 to 8:15 pm on Thursdays at Powell River Academy of Music, 7280 Kemano Street. Everyone is welcome to attend and join in.

Cinch Games

Cinch card games are played weekly at 7 pm on Mondays at Royal Canadian Legion Branch 164, 6811 Alexander Street. Newcomers are welcome to attend.

 

Community Coalition

Powell River Community Coalition meets on the second Wednesday of each month at 7 pm in room 152 at Vancouver Island University.

 

Community Foundation

Powell River Community Foundation provides a guest speaker to appear at community organization meetings. To arrange for a speaker leave a message at 604.483.8678, or email prcf@firstcu.ca. A volunteer will call back to discuss a date and answer questions about the foundation and its local contribution.

 

Community Health

Powell River Community Health holds a youth clinic from 3:30 to 5:30 pm every Tuesday at Powell River General Hospital, third floor, 5000 Joyce Avenue. This clinic offers free and confidential health services to youth. For  information, call 604.485.3310.

 

Concert Band

Powell River Community Concert Band, directed by Roy Carson, meets 7:30 to 9 pm Thursdays in the Brooks Secondary School band room, 5400 Marine Avenue. Powell River Duplicate Bridge Club plays at the Alano Club, 5903 Arbutus Avenue, Mondays at 9:30 am, partners guaranteed; Tuesdays at 6:45 pm, bring partner or have one arranged; Thursdays at 1:30 pm, partners guaranteed. Powell River Garden Club meets at 7 pm on the fourth Tuesday of every month from January to June and September to November at Cranberry Seniors Centre. Everyone welcome. Come for an enjoyable evening with interesting garden information, tea/coffee and goodies.

 

Girl Guides

Girl Guides of Canada meet Wednesdays at Henderson Elementary School. Sparks, ages five and six, meet from 4 to 5 pm. Brownies, ages seven and eight, meet from 5 to 6:30 pm. Girls nine through 15 meet from 6:30 to 8:30 pm. For information, call 604.483.3234.

Mood Disorders Association

Narcotics Anonymous

Narcotics Anonymous holds meetings at 7 pm every Friday in room 3018, Powell River General Hospital, 5000 Joyce Avenue. Any addict can stop using drugs, lose the desire to use and find a new way to live.

 

Pain Support

Powell River 4-H Club

Powell River 4-H Community Club is currently the only local 4-H club. It offers sewing, quilting, knitting/crochet, hand embroidery and gardening. Lawn Bowling

Every Wednesday Powell River Lawn Bowling Clubwelcomes new members and others wanting to learn the basics of lawn bowling to join them at the clubhouse on Marine Avenue and Chestnut Street in the Townsite.

 

Powell River Public Library 

Powell River Public Library hosts Thursday preschool storytime 10:30 to 11 am in the Anne Woznow Children’s Reading Room.

Radio Club

Powell River Amateur Radio Club and Powell River Amateur Repeater Society meet at 7 pm on the second Wednesday of each month at Westview Flying Club. Reach to Recovery

Reach to Recovery provides hospital and home visits to recently diagnosed breast cancer patients. Service provides information and offers one-on-one counselling with trained counsellors for anyone who has been diagnosed with breast cancer. Rotary Club of Powell River

Salvation Army

StrongStart

StrongStart early learning programs are available for children birth to pre-kindergarten at Kelly Creek Community School, Edgehill, Henderson and Westview elementary schools, and on the ORCA Bus. Scottish Country Dancing

Senior Citizens Association of BC Branch 49

Options for Sexual Health drop-in clinic opens from 5 to 7 pm every Thursday at Powell River General Hospital, 5000 Joyce Avenue. Access low-cost birth control, counselling, health screening, pap tests and more.

 

Soup Kitchen

St. Joseph's Hall hosts a soup kitchen from 12 to 1 pm every Friday. The hall is adjacent to Assumption Church on Glacier Street.

 

Sunshine Coast Cloggers

Sunshine Coast Cloggers meet at 6:30 to 8:30 pm on Wednesday evenings at Powell River Christian School.

 

Stroke Recovery

Powell River Stroke Recovery meets from 9:30 am to 12:45 pm on Tuesdays, September through June, at the Royal Canadian Legion in Powell River. Therapeutic Riding Association

Therapeutic Riding Association provides opportunities for volunteers to enjoy fresh air, exercise and guaranteed big smiles, 45 minutes per day or more, Monday to Thursday at Paradise Valley Exhibition Grounds. 12 Steps

Circle of CARE (confidential, accepting, respectful, encouraging) is held from 7 to 9 pm every Wednesday at Elders/Cultural Centre, 4940 Salish Drive.
