Want to improve your brain health and have fun doing it? Be sure to attend the Pender Harbour Women’s Connection welcome back gathering Tuesday, Sept. 24 at 10 a.m. at the School of Music (drop in fee of $2). Paola Stewart, PHCS community recreation programmer, will introduce Elle Archibald, Sechelt Library director. Elle will present a sample session from “Brain Health,” which is an informative multi-week workshop focusing on either free or inexpensive activities that have been scientifically proven to improve brain health. Topics will include gratitude, meditation, food, playing games, sleep and re-thinking stress. Elle’s presentation will include interactivity and discussion. Questions and chat to follow refreshments.

Elle is looking for local interest in presenting a separate four-week brain health session in Pender Harbour. Elle’s stated goal is “ to explain the program, what will be discussed and why it’s part of an important community conversation.” 

Meanwhile … Madeira Friday Market is on today behind the Hall. Fresh Flowers, BCSPCA No Flea Flee Market, Beauty and the Bead, Steelesloveoils and Young Living. Vendors welcome. Tables just $10. PHCC event. 

Coffee House tonight, Friday, Sept. 13, welcomes to the stage of The School of Music Backporch Reunion, Cajun band, Danny Vallee, singer, songwriter, guitarist, Allan Nienhuis, vocals with guitar. Doors open at 7 p.m., music at 7:30. $10 suggested donation at door. Coffee, goodies sold. For more info call 604-883-9749. 

Saturday, Sept. 14, at the beautiful Backeddy Restaurant, two of the Sunshine Coast’s finest musicians, Jim Foster and Joe Stanton, will perform at what will be an amazing evening of entertainment, delicious food and awesome vistas. 

PAWSitively Pender Harbour fundraiser for the BCSPCA was a fabulous success! Enormous heartfelt thank you to all who donated, our gracious hostesses Dale and Karen and the beautiful pups who came by. 

The same Saturday, Sept. 7, hardworking volunteers, were out and about at the 2019 Annual Trash Bash. Thank you to all who participated and our Rotary for providing a barbecue! 

Next week is National Science Literacy Week, a weeklong celebration of science and ocean research in Canada. We encourage people to pick up a new book at the Earthfair store, perhaps a new mushroom guide or Duane Sept’s new Beachcomber’s Guide to the Pacific Northwest. Related to Science Literacy Week, is the event at the Iris Griffith Centre Sept. 29 hosted by PODS – the Art and Science of Orca Acoustics, an art show and lecture about orca communication. 

Thursday, Sept. 19, come join in the lively discussions and games at Harbourside Friendship, 10:30 a.m. at The Hall. Lunch served at noon. $10 drop in. 

Great news, music fans! Marilyn MacLeod, Pender Harbour Blues Society, has brought back the much-loved Sunday Jams starting Sunday, Sept. 22, 2 to 6 p.m., at the Pender Harbour Golf Course Clubhouse Restaurant. To celebrate the launch, an Allstar Jam! Eight of the Coast’s most talented musicians will share the stage: Peter Van Deursen, Joe Stanton, Simon Paradis, Jim Foster, Steve Hinton, Trevor Sully Antonyk, Tim Rannard, and Al Arford. Come enjoy a fantastic afternoon of music! 

Fall Faire is less than a month away, Oct. 5. There will be a day full of fun for the whole family. Kid’s court, judged exhibition, chili cookoff, Skinny Jimmy and SASS will perform, art show at Harbour Gallery, quilt show at the School of Music, Vendors Village, food savour Truck, East Indian food kiosk, Hall Home Kitchen. Dress The Town In Straw scarecrow contest is now on and you can register at phcommunityclub@gmail.com. Exhibition forms can be picked up at Earthfair Store.
