The Sunshine Coast Volleyball Club U16 volleyball team had a very successful weekend at the first Super Series tournament in Langley and Abbotsford over the weekend.

In Saturday’s pool play, the girls played a tremendous match against the Mariners from Nanaimo, narrowly losing 19-17 in a tight third set battle. The team quickly regrouped to defeat Seaside from Richmond 2-0, then Fury from Delta 2-0. That put them second place in the pool, qualifying for Tier 1 playoffs on Sunday.

In the first playoff match, the team played an outstanding match against the Coquitlam Ducks, unfortunately losing 16-14 in the third set. After that setback, the team came out strong, defeating Iron Maidens from Victoria 2-0, then Comox Valley 2-0 to finish the tournament on a high note and a very respectable ninth place in the 22-team tournament.

The team’s next action will be Feb. 16 at a Simon Fraser University tournament.
