Sunshine Coast Community Services Society has announced the opening of The Family Place, a multi-service space for families with children aged 0-6, at its Trail Avenue location in Sechelt, 5520 Trail Ave.

The newly renovated site brings together drop-in family resource programs like Bellies & Babies and Parent-Tot Drop-In with Child Care Resource and Referral (CCRR), on-site access to the society’s Early Intervention Therapies such as the Infant Development Program Playgroup and other community-based enhanced services. Parents can access information, resources and referrals to childcare and all community supports anytime during the facility’s opening hours.

“The Family Place offers a warm and welcoming space for pregnant women, mothers, fathers, and caregivers with young children,” the society said in a release. “Our site includes a stimulating and enriching playroom for drop-in programming and child-minding, a comfortable home-like setting for parenting programs, support groups and consultations, and a large kitchen for providing snacks and meals, and hosting a community kitchen. Our programs promote the importance and the power of play to children’s growth and development while supporting the entire family in their parenting journey.”

Additional programming and support will be provided in the form of regular parenting programs (such as Circle of Security, Parent-Child Mother Goose, Infant Massage) and parent support groups (such as Mamas Supporting Mamas.)

Families will have access to free clothing, diapers and other necessities and can borrow toys, books and resources from the CCRR lending library.

“Sunshine Coast Community Services is committed to providing ongoing quality programming to support families along the entire Sunshine Coast,” the release added. “Our Family Programming will continue to look for opportunities to diversify our offerings and to expand locations to communities such as Pender Harbour and Maderia Park. Feedback from families continues to be valuable and integral to our programming choices.”

Programs will start running in The Family Place on Sept. 17th with a grand opening celebration planned for Sept. 28.
