Canada’s outrigger team in the men’s 70+ category took home silver at the 2019 International Va’a Federation World Distance Championships, which took place from Aug. 9 to 17 on the other Sunshine Coast, in Australia. Ron Roberts of Halfmoon Bay (third from right) competed with the team. Canada’s 40+ team, which included Gibsons paddler Catharine Esson placed fifth and the men’s 50+ team came sixth with Davis Bay paddler Ian Bolden.
