It was a glass-half-full kind of weekend for the Blues’ first-ever female team at the Female Atom Recreational in Powell River.

The Atom Team had two wins and two losses at the Jan. 24 to 26 tournament.

“We really saw growth in our team this past weekend, said Kori Hudrick, lead for the Sunshine Coast Minor Hockey Association’s female program, which launched this season.

The Blues were up against teams two divisions higher – those games resulted in the losses. But the play was competitive, Hudrick said. “The team was in it and did not make it easy. They played hard... It is going to show when playoffs start.”

The first game in the post-season playoffs will take place at the Gibsons arena on Feb. 8 at 12:30 p.m. against Tri Cities. The next home game will be the round robin wrap up, against Chilliwack, on Feb. 29. That game starts at 12:45 p.m. at the Sechelt arena.
