The Chinook Swim Club held a time trial for 10 athletes on Saturday, Oct. 31.
Due to COVID-19, all competitive swim programs are currently required to run time trials at their local pools instead of travelling to meets in other communities.
“Sanctioning of a pool requires exact measurements to be submitted to SwimBC so that the athletes’ times can be submitted to the Swimming Canada database,” the club said in a media release. “Swim BC is currently working on a program that will allow clubs to compete virtually from the safety of their own pool.”
The club thanked Robert Allen for volunteering to survey the length and the width of the Sechelt pool and providing this opportunity to the club.
“The staff at the Sechelt pool have supported our safe return to sport plan in alignment with all requirements from Via Sport, Lifesaving BC, Swimming Canada and Work Safe BC,” the club also said.
“We would like to thank the Sechelt Aquatic Centre staff for the dedication you have shown in meeting the requirements for a safe return to sport for our athletes and community. Being back in the pool has been so beneficial for the physical and mental health of our youth.
“Thank you for providing the ability to train for their upcoming virtual time trials. Just two months in, we are seeing athletes perform best times and times that would allow them to attend provincial and national level competitions.”
