We are citizens, not ‘fans’

Letters

Editor:

This letter was sent to Powell River-Sunshine Coast MLA Nicholas Simons.

Words cannot express how insulted I feel when I get an email asking me to sign a birthday card for John Horgan. (And when I failed to sign it the first time, I got a “reminder” email!) How stupid do the party PR people think the average NDP voter is? I do not know John Horgan personally. Nor do I know Carole James (who is the alleged sender of the message). I am not a person who has to pretend that “celebrities” are my personal friends. It’s that kind of delusional mentality this email seems aimed at. If the party is this desperate for the votes of the terminally simple-minded, then it is in real trouble! How Carole James can lend her name to this kind of cheap publicity stunt is beyond me.

We need leaders, not “celebrities.” We are citizens, not fans.

This is one reason that emails from all political parties are immediately redirected to my spam folder.
