Use Porteau Cove for ferry

There is a fairly simple fix to adding more capacity to the ferry system using existing ferry equipment and terminals.

There is a terminal at Porteau Cove that was installed many years ago that could handle a ferry such as the ones servicing Bowen Island and Powell River. There are extra ferries from these runs that are currently only being used occasionally. We have two berths in Langdale so easy enough to keep another ferry here as well as the required crew.

There may need to be a booth set up at Porteau Cove but with the latest wireless technologies this should be fairly easy.

This ferry could be reservation only, commercial traffic only or a mix.

The distance from Porteau Cove around the back of Gambier to Langdale is about five nautical miles longer than Horseshoe Bay to Langdale (at a speed of 20 knots it would add an extra 15 minutes to the trip) and is in protected waters.

It would be interesting to find out from BC Ferries why this could not be done and started within the next several months
