Runners keep distance

Letters

Editor:

Note to runners (especially trail runners) – social distancing applies to you too! I’ve lost track of the number of times in recent weeks that runners have raced up to me on narrow forest trails without giving me a chance to find a spot to move off to the side to maintain two metres distance. I get that you assume it’s up to walkers to get out of your way, but at least give us a chance. And if you’re approaching from behind, how about calling out from a bit of distance so that we walkers can scramble into the weeds or brambles to let you by at a safe distance?

Dog walkers get it. Most mountain bikers get it. I’d like to be able to say that rude runners are in the minority, but recent experience suggests otherwise, at least insofar as their willingness to make social distancing possible is concerned.
