Lack of leadership

Letters

Editor:

Regarding your front page photo on Aug. 7 (“Upper Gibsons taps aquifer”):

I was extremely disappointed to see the lack of leadership being shown by the mayor of Gibsons and chair of the SCRD during these times of pandemic.

There is no evidence of physical distancing or mask wearing in this photo. The fact that the most important issue appeared to be exchanging an empty bottle for the camera is a strain on the credibility of both these politicians.

Leadership involves more than making proclamations and looking for press coverage and this was a clearly missed opportunity by all concerned to show some connection and understanding of what the rest of the community is doing to deal with this pandemic and to attempt to lead by example

It may be helpful to perhaps publish a photo, if one was taken, of the large group of people attending this event to show that everyone else was wearing masks or practising social distancing like the rest of the community.
