Delayed reopening unjust

I wish to object in the strongest possible terms to the SCRD’s unfair and unjust decision to reopen all the aquatic centres along the Sunshine Coast except for the one in Gibsons.

If those of us who live in the Gibsons area are going to be “taxed” extra by the SCRD for the reopening of Coast recreational facilities, I expect the Gibsons pool to be included along with the other facilities. Why are we “lesser” citizens? Why are we paying more for less?

Pre-COVID, I swam in the Gibsons pool four to five times a week, as did many Gibsons (area) seniors, many of whom are arthritic and need the gentle exercise a pool provides. I miss its availability greatly and have been eagerly awaiting its reopening. Does the SCRD think it’s fair that I spend a lot of extra money driving 50 kilometres return to Sechelt to swim when there is a perfectly usable pool in Gibsons, sitting empty and unused?

The SCRD has done its Gibsons area taxpayers a great disservice and then asked us to pay extra for it. Please fix this – now. And if you cannot open the Gibsons pool (along with all the others), perhaps you can provide us with a tax rebate for services denied.
