Coronavirus questions

Editor:

With the spreading coronavirus outbreak in China, and confirmed cases in Canada, there is rising concern about our local hospital’s ability to provide isolated medical care. What preparations have been implemented at Sechelt Hospital to ensure proper containment and treatment if the virus is identified on the Sunshine Coast? Have isolation rooms and equipment been set up for any potential crisis?

According to a published report from the BC Centre for Disease Control, they are “testing several British Columbians for potential infection.”

With our high number of seniors, it would be prudent for Sechelt Hospital to issue a response as to what plans have been made in preparations for an unexpected outbreak. Publishing symptoms and what steps to follow if someone suspects they may have contracted the virus would be helpful.
