Chill out and slow down

Letters

Editor:

Being born and raised on the Sunshine Coast doesn’t make me more special than anyone else. It does seem to have grown my appreciation for the lifestyle, community and the natural environment that the Coast possesses.

I was thrown off when driving our newborn daughter, a fourth generation Coaster, home from the hospital. A few individuals clearly lack this understanding, appreciation and decency. We were aggressively tailgated and overtaken twice. Firstly by a taxi driver just as we were exiting a crash site that saw two innocent vehicles in the ditch. Secondly, by a lady in a white Honda putting herself as well as oncoming traffic in danger. In both cases, as is typical on our highway, we shortly caught up, proving excessive speed and rushing really gets you nowhere in life.

I understand the Coast is growing, I have come to terms with this. My only hope in writing this letter is for the people reading to stand up and help keep this place as friendly and relaxed as it always has been. After travelling across most continents, we both agree this is one of the best places to call home. And, as I’ve learned more than ever in the last few days, life is precious. Chill out, slow down and respect ALL your neighbours. Let us be the change the next generation needs to see in the world!
