Adventurous spirits

Letters

Editor:

I saw your picture of the Crawshays in the July 3 Coast Reporter (“75 years strong”).

I am privileged to have known them both for many years. Richard was an RAF pilot who flew Mosquitoes in World War Two. He and Patricia immigrated to Canada after the war.

They both had adventurous spirits. From Calgary they undertook an extended wilderness horseback trip to B.C. In one instance they swam their horses across a river. Cold and wet, they were rewarded on the farther bank by a friendly gentleman who “revived” them with a drink of whisky.

One of their sons seems to have inherited their spirit for adventure as he works as a wilderness guide in the northwest area of the Yukon.
