Kitty & The Rooster bring their unique musical act to the Coast Aug. 7.

Avant-garde art meets early-60s guitar-rock in Vancouver rock ’n’ roll duo Kitty and The Rooster. It’s like painter Rene Magritte teamed up with Talking Heads to do an homage to The Ventures. But they’re more than a mere novelty act – these folks can really play. Stand-up drummer Jodie Ponto and guitarist Noah Walker bring their quirky and very danceable show to the Outdoor Stage at the Roberts Creek Legion Friday, Aug. 7. The bar and Wilde Kitchen open at 4 p.m., music from 5 to 7 p.m. Tickets $20, but seating is limited.

Rooster Noah Walker is sticking around to sit in on the Creek Legion’s Saturday, Aug. 8 show with the Petunia and The Vipers Trio, another truly original musical act up from Vancouver. Doors open at 4 p.m., with music from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. The band is also playing a Sunday matinée on Aug. 9, with some sets between 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. Maudy’s Famous BBQ will be part of the fare. Both Vipers’ shows are reservation-only, $20. Tables can be booked to accommodate bubbles of two to six people. Go to rclegionevents.com.

Just along Lower Road at the Roberts Creek Gazebo on Sunday, Aug. 9, it’s Slow Sundays with an eclectic mix of tunes from the Whirlwinds Woodwind Quintet at 1 p.m. Then it’s Double Treble and Friends at 2:15 p.m. with their own mix of Celtic music and jazz.

On the Clubhouse Restaurant deck at the Pender Harbour Golf Course on Sunday, Aug. 9 from 2 to 5 p.m., hear the Blue Line Trio perform their solid, old-time acoustic blues, western swing, gypsy jazz, “newgrass” and classic folk. $5 cover.
