On Dec. 5, at the Gibsons Elementary School gym, the Special Olympics Gibsons basketball team enjoyed a game against their most worthy opponents, the Gibsons Fire Department. It was the second annual hoops game versus the firefighters and both teams anxiously anticipated the event. The spectators were well entertained and impressed with the athletes’ abilities and their teamwork. Good sportsmanship was displayed throughout the game. Organizers thank Gibsons Fire Department for participating in the event and coaches Samantha Giampe and Richard Hoath and referee Dave Diether. This year the basketball team is eligible to attend the Special Olympics regional qualifiers – March Madness – in North Vancouver, March 14 and 15, 2020. Kudos to Gibsons council for the grant-in-aid to support the town’s Special Olympics programs.
