Auxiliary has not been idle

Letters

Editor:

The Sunshine Coast Healthcare Auxiliary’s Thrift Store, Gift Shop and Loan Cupboard will remain closed until May 1 in accordance with medical advice and provincial directives. Its services to long-term care residents will also remain paused, and all group events and meetings are cancelled until further notice.

Although its regular services are not open, the Auxiliary has not been idle. It continues to seek ways to support the community during this health crisis. It has matched $100,000 in funds with the Sechelt Hospital Foundation for emergency equipment and supplies. It is in the process of developing a COVID-19 Emergency Task Force with other community leaders, including the Sechelt Hospital Foundation, the Community Foundation and Sunshine Coast Community Services, to assist those who may be isolated and in need, and Auxiliary members continue to perform individual acts of kindness.

We salute our frontline health care providers – doctors, nurses, health care and home care aides. We praise all those other often unsung heroes and heroines – the pharmacists and pharmacy workers, cashiers, bank tellers, public works workers, truck drivers, RCMP, fire workers, Emergency Medical Service teams and others without whose services our community could not function. Thank you, and stay well.

Candice Sayre, President, Sunshine Coast Healthcare Auxiliary
