Penny-wise, pound-foolish

Re: “SCRD to close share shed at landfill indefinitely,” July 31.

Imagine if you can all the Scotch broom on the Sunshine Coast bagged up in clear plastic and delivered to the Sechelt landfill. How many plastic bags? A trillion? Is that what we want in our landfill? And what do we do with the seeds (the part that spreads invasively)? Eat them?

I was taught in rational-thinking class not to create a bigger problem with the solution to the problem you started out with but the SCRD seems incapable of problem solving. Why not buy a high-efficiency burner like Powell River did years ago? The cost is (or was) about $80,000. Our local government is chronically “penny-wise and pound-foolish,” as my Scottish grandmother used to say. Their answer to the Scotch broom disposal problem is just one more example.
