Robert Allen will talk about his driving tour around Iceland at the Sunshine Coast Arts Centre on Dec. 6.

Robert Allen will describe a driving tour around Iceland at the Sunshine Coast Natural History Society meeting on Dec. 6 at Sunshine Coast Arts Centre.

The end of March 2019 seemed like an ideal time to see Iceland in late winter and the country is a “geologist’s dream.” There are waterfalls, volcanoes, lava beds, tunnels, glaciers, icebergs, and stunning scenery.

Allen’s week-long tour started and ended in Reykjavik and went from town to town, counter-clockwise, around the whole island. A car, a guest room and breakfast each day were included in the tour package, along with maps and brochures.

Allen is a life member as a British Columbia land surveyor and a retired Canada lands surveyor and a past president of both professional land surveying associations. He has lived in Sechelt since 1972, is a 46-year member and past president of the Sunshine Coast Lions Club, and a 34-year member and treasurer of Sunshine Coast Ground Search and Rescue. He was for seven years an alderman and the acting mayor for the Village of Sechelt. He still continues to volunteer in other capacities with the Sunshine Coast Natural History Society and the Sargeant Bay Society.

His talk begins at 7:30 p.m. Coffee and cookies will be served. Visitors are welcomed.

The Sunshine Coast Arts Centre is located on Medusa Street at Trail Avenue in Sechelt.
