First prize is $50 Gumboot gift card! Second prize is a Roberts Creek hoodie! Third prize is a Roberts Creek hoodie, plus the brag, “I once came in third in a haiku contest!” Deadline for submission is the first of March. Prizes supplied by the RCCA and judging by the board. Open to everyone, not just Creekers. Make your submission to [email protected]. I will announce the winners March 5.

The talented Graham Walker is in my column once again, twice in two weeks! He and Ed Lands (the Slow Sundays Duo) want us to know it’s time to start planning for the coming season of outstanding entertainment. Picture yourself under sunny skies with a gentle breeze blowing, sit back by our beloved Library Gazebo, surrounded by (in a distanced sort of way) friendly folk, all listening to the wonderful local musical talent on stage. In only five short months, we’ll be into the sixth season of Slow Sundays in the Creek! You are invited to assist in putting on the events, to volunteer, donate, or find out more by getting in touch with Ed Lands or Graham Walker. Imagine yourself on a beautiful summer day, enjoying Slow Sundays once again. Contact Graham at: [email protected] or Ed at [email protected].

Rhoda at the Rusty Hinge wanted you to know our boutique garden shop in the Heart of the Creek is now in its fifth year! Is fully stocked up with seeds (West Coast Seeds, Salt Spring Seeds, Renees’s Garden Seeds & Aimers Organic Seeds), seeding supplies and a large assortment of tropical plants, baskets and containers. Now is a great time to think of the garden.

In conversation with a friend this week I mislabelled the name of the coming relationship-testing holiday and struck upon an idea, a kind of reverse Halloween! Should you find yourself single, there would be a heart light or some such thing you hang from your door and, on the evening of Feb. 14, after a romantic dinner for two, couples would stroll their neighbourhood, a bag of chocolates and flowers in hand, and knock on the doors of the unattached offering gifts. I hope this gets some traction but I’m not gonna hold my breath. I do have a piece of advice for you out there that will be going the dozen roses route. It is better to give a single rose a dozen times, spread throughout the day, in different locations, than to give a dozen roses but once.

I want you to write. And let all the people know. How nice is the Creek. [email protected]
