Pender Harbour & Egmont: See phara.ca for local updates

Our community continues to excel at dealing with the current situation, aka global pandemic. Fantastic signage that appeared seemed to bring the traffic on the roads down to almost what it should be – the bare minimum.

Our community continues to excel at dealing with the current situation, aka global pandemic. Fantastic signage that appeared seemed to bring the traffic on the roads down to almost what it should be – the bare minimum. Our essential service providers – health, groceries, veterinary – carry on with dedication and courage while most are probably exhausted. The unseen volunteers, making phone calls, delivering food and prescriptions complete the lifeline. We thank and salute you.

Pender Harbour and Area Residents Association (PHARA) has a great website (PHARA.ca) with daily updates on COVID-19 and info on most local businesses – an excellent reference. They also have a Facebook page with a COVID-19 link, as well as great local information and beautiful photography. Become a member while you visit.

Elderdog’s Kira Sufalko has provided the correct email contact [email protected] and to remind those seniors of the volunteer services they offer: dog walking, foster care, transportation to vet appointments and delivering pet food.

In these unusual times we are encouraged to communicate with others applying proper distancing by phone, text, email. Be sure to share updates with those who don’t have the luxury, convenience, or comfort of modern technology.

I invited submissions of inspirations. I was called by a friend, a senior woman who truly has the weight of the world on her shoulders. I saw the number on call display and feared the worst. Her husband is very, very ill. She was checking in on us! As the surprisingly, very upbeat pleasant conversation came to a close, she said, “Dilys, I am going to have the best garden ever!”

You won’t miss out on Growing Smiles; Serendipity Day Care’s annual plant sale fundraiser is on. For more information and catalogue go to [email protected]

As I head out to weed my garden (after all this inspiration), please remember those folks self-isolating and take an extra copy of Coast Reporter to leave at their door.

Be safe, stay healthy and happy. Contact me at [email protected] with your news, information and inspirations.
