The Sunshine Coast Museum and Archives has created Sunshine Coast Museum at Home, a collection of online resources for students, teachers, and community members to continue their learning through school and work closures. A variety of interactive and engaging activities are available free of charge, providing learning opportunities for students, as well as entertainment for the young at heart.

Enjoy a virtual 3D tour of the museum’s exhibits where you can travel through the museum, zoom in on artifacts and even read text panels to learn more about the items on display. Search the museum’s online photograph collection of over 7,000 archival photographs, or flip through 45 years of digitized Sunshine Coast newspapers (1945-1990) to learn all the news that was fit to print. Both of these collections can be searched by keyword and date.

Of interest to students and teachers, the Museum has created History Quiz, a variety of multiple-choice quizzes geared towards different age groups. Using the resources on Museum at Home, participants can find and submit their answers for the chance to win a museum giftpack.

Museum at Home also features a curated collection of short historical videos on a variety of topics, including Japanese internment, the Women’s Institute Hall, and even a clip featuring the voice of early settler Harry Roberts. If sitting back and listening to some storytelling is more appealing, you can enjoy the Community Storytelling link which will feature oral history interviews with a variety of local characters telling lively and entertaining stories from the Coast.

During our closure, the museum will be uploading even more resources to the portal; if you have any ideas for content or collaboration, please get in touch.

Sunshine Coast Museum at Home is available on the museum’s website at: sunshinecoastmuseum.ca/museum-at-home.html
