Look back in time with new eyes on Christmas season

An Orphan’s Christmas
Storfie
Deanna Storfie presents An Orphan’s Christmas on Saturday, Dec. 13, from 7 to 8 p.m., at the Heritage Playhouse.

Here’s a fresh outlook for the festive season: An Orphan’s Christmas on Saturday, Dec. 13, from 7 to 8 p.m., at the Heritage Playhouse, 622 North Rd. in Gibsons.

With playwright and actor Deanna Storfie, you’ll look back in time – to the 1800s in Bristol, England, to be exact. Children who have lost their parents to cholera are on the streets, hungry and scared – think Charles Dickens’ Oliver Twist.

In a drama based on intensive research of the period, Storfie portrays the historically accurate but fictional character of Cady Murphy, reflecting what an orphan’s life would have been like.

Forty years after taking refuge in the Muller Home for Orphans, Cady Murphy works to help children like herself, and tells the story of Christmas Day when there is no food to feed the 300 children in the orphanage. Like a Christmas bell ringing out hope, the impossible happens!

Come enjoy the miracle that is Christmas – opening with classical guitar by Josh Searles, a Christmas Carol singalong with Kim Leighton, and a brief word from Eli Pauls of Young Life, Sunshine Coast. Inspire Christmas spirit with family and friends: tickets are $10, available at Enchanted Toys & Games in the IGA Plaza in Gibsons and at Calvary Baptist Church of Gibsons, 711 Park Rd. (All funds from ticket sales go directly to Programs for Youth, Young Life, Sunshine Coast.)
