Kim Eaton and Petra Petersen took gold in Mixed Doubles

From Sept. 11 to 14, Kelowna was the host for the 55+ BC Games (Senior Summer Games), and once again, players from the Sunshine Coast made up the team for Zone 4: Lower Mainland (Burnaby, Delta, Ladner, New Westminster, North and West Vancouver, Pemberton, Richmond, Squamish, Sunshine Coast, Tsawwassen, Vancouver and Whistler). Six out of 16 of the participants were from the Sunshine Coast.

The Zone 4 team included Bob Mahar, Irma Mahar, Pam Lumsden, Petra Petersen, Peter Rogers and Rowena Rogers (all from Sechelt).

The team of Kim Eaton and Claudia Ferris (from Vancouver), Tim Degenais (Richmond) and Petra Petersen (Sechelt) won gold for the second year in a row. Degenais and Eaton won gold for Men’s Doubles. Petersen and Eaton brought home gold in Mixed Doubles. Bob Mahar won a medal for a 180 score, Pam Lumsden won a medal in Women’s High Finish of 100 and Petra Petersen won a medal for women’s high score. Degenais and Eaton succeeded with gold in Men’s Doubles and the team (Eaton, Ferris, Degenais and Petersen) took gold in the Team games.

The Kelowna community was very welcoming to all competitors and everyone in town did their best to welcome participants in all events.

The Sunshine Coast has had players participating in the darts competition for more than 10 years. With the support of Coast Darts in hosting tournaments and regular league darts, the interest continues to grow.

The local league start up tournament was held on Sept. 7, with 26 players playing a doubles tournament.  Prizes went to Barry McLennan, John Chartrand for first place, Joyce Jackson and Selina August for second place and Ritchie Gibb and Carl Burgon for third place. The regular season for Monday league darts started on Sept. 16, with nine teams and approximately 60 players. If you have an interest in sparing for a team, you can apply at www.coastdarts.ca. Sechelt Legion continues drop in darts on Tuesdays (singles) and Thursdays (fun darts) and Gibsons Legion continues Wednesday Fun Darts. These are drop in darts, with registration starting about 7:15 p.m.
