The Sunshine Coast Healthcare Auxiliary has announced that eight grants totalling $55,000 have been awarded under its granting program.

The program provides grants to organizations for initiatives that promote healthy outcomes for Sunshine Coast residents. Organizations are invited to apply each year by the end of February, but the process had been delayed this year due to COVID-19.

The 2020 recipients are:

• The Arrowhead Clubhouse Society, which serves adults with mental health challenges. The $10,000 grant will provide laundry facilities, bathrooms with showers, advocacy and crisis intervention.

• The Pender Harbour Health Centre was awarded $10,000 for a portable 3D ultrasound Bladder Scan. The impact of this will benefit both Pender Harbour and Sechelt as referrals to the hospital from Pender Harbour will be reduced.

• Good Samaritan Canada / Christensen Village will receive $10,000 to support the Raising the Curtain research project on dementia.

• The Vancouver Coastal Health Adaptive Fitness Program, sponsored by Home Care Services for individuals with developmental disabilities and brain injuries, was awarded $5,000.

• The Sunshine Coast Hospice Society will receive $5,000 in support of education, in-service training and clinical counselling services for those experiencing complicated bereavement.

As well, three grants of $5,000 each were awarded to Sunshine Coast Community Services Society for their Parent and Tot Drop In, Dad’s Matter and Bellies and Babes programs, all supporting young families on the Coast.
