Sanitizers, masks and a ‘wow’ of an AGM

In my regular job I will often get little scrapes and cuts on my hands (if I don’t bleed, I ain’t working hard enough) so when it come to hand sanitizers, I can tell the alcohol content by the sting, Ye-ouch! Of course my grimace is hidden beneath the mask. Then there is what I call the “goop” factor. Some establishments have added gel to help it adhere, like my attempt at homemade. It had aloe mixed with alcohol, but it left a sticky feeling. We need reviews of all the different versions at all the different locations, something like a wine critique – “the hardware shop brought in a beautiful new hand wash, with citrus notes and a clean sharp finish, served with a hands free foot pump for your safety and convenience!”

Masks have now become almost as much a fashion statement as a health necessity but one of my favourite iterations has to be a photo of your lower face on a mask. Creepy but oh so fun. The science behind masks is clear: they are helpful in slowing the spread, more as a way for the wearer to keep what they got. You can wear a mask as a way to say “I care about others.” As well, as of Monday the 21st, the IGA will require all customers to wear one. Be gentle with yourself and each other.

Our little Legion is slugging away, doing their best to be our living room in these hard and strange times. The wildfire smoke caused the rescheduling of the Burying Ground gig (I don’t want to say cancellation; too much has been cancelled this year). But there are a few great shows in the works. Friday the 18th is Billy Hillpicker, worth it just to see the grins on their faces as they bring their infectious love of bluegrass to our front lawn. I know how the drums go (if it has drums, it ain’t bluegrass btw). Saturday the 19th, a two-fer one-man show comes to town. “MC with a PhD” Topher Trick, and RC legend Billy Gruff will be throwing words around. Watch out!

All new, extra strength Staggers & Jaggs bring their special brand of snake oil to the #219 next Friday, Sept. 25. It’s a family affair the following night with the Jeevious Family inviting you into their parlour on Saturday the 26th. Buy your tickets early so you are not disappointing eh?

You know them! You love them! You want to be one of them! It’s the Roberts Creek Community Association! This week they will “Wow” the community with their Annual General Meeting! Thrills! Chills! Spills! And a mop for the spills! Show up to our Community Hall, Wednesday, Sept. 23 at 7 p.m. to see what all the commotion is about. Featuring the president’s report (riveting!), the financial report (awe inspiring!), election of directors (here is your chance to shine, run for a seat!) and plans for 2021, because it is bound to happen even if we don’t plan for it. See you there (not all users will experience the same “wow”).
