I read with great nostalgia and pleasure the article by Ann Watson on the history of Hackett Park (“Hackett Park – Sechelt’s own Central Park,” Sept. 11). My husband and I retired from Vancouver to Gibsons three years ago – mainly due to my very fond memories of the Coast from my childhood days. There were many pipe bands here, from Powell River right through Gibsons. But there were few highland dancers and even fewer dance teachers: the Robinson girls “came to town” for weekly lessons in New Westminster. Plans were made to travel to Scotland in 1976 and fundraising commenced. As part of that effort, older dancers like me came to the Coast and provided stage shows at Robbie Burns dinners in all three Legions and, most fun of all, danced at Timber Days at Hackett Park – usually followed by a pig roast at the beach and kayaking. Thanks for the “strathspey” down memory lane.
