Gibsons Elementary has done phenomenally well in the Mathematica Centrum national math contest.

On April 18, 62 students from grades 4 to 7 at Gibsons Elementary School (GES) wrote the Mathematica Centrum national math contest. The results have been announced, and Gibsons Elementary has done phenomenally well.

Over 50,000 students across Canada wrote the contest at these age groups. Gibsons Elementary had 16 students who made the honour roll for the country, which means they scored in Canada’s top 1,000 at their age level. Students Maya Karagianis, Melyssa V. and Keshan Baduge all placed first in the country for their age group with perfect scores. In addition, the Grade 5s from GES had the top combined score for British Columbia and received a provincial award.

Great preparation strategies by teachers Correen Evans, Colleen Hourigan and Eric Sullivan made sure each student was going into it prepared. In fact, almost every student at GES who took the test scored above the Canadian average.

Well done, Gibsons!
