Spring is coming with the assistance of the Gibsons Garden Club.

On Wednesday, Feb. 19 at the Gibsons Heritage Playhouse (662 North Rd.), Douglas Justice of UBC will discuss the vast variety of ornamental cherries in Vancouver, just in time for the Ornamental Cherry Blossom Festival this spring.

Justice is an indispensable guide to ornamental cherries on the Lower Mainland. As associate director and curator of collections at UBC Botanical Garden, he is responsible for its day-to-day operations and interpretation of plant collections. He also teaches horticulture and plant identification and is actively involved with local, national and international botanical and horticultural organizations.

Doors open at 6:30 p.m. for the garden-themed silent auction (cash only). The proceeds from this fundraiser support the club’s community outreach projects and education for gardeners. Presentation begins at 7:30 p.m.

Tickets are $15 and available online at www.gibsonsgardenclub.ca, by phone at 604-886-9896, in person at Quality Pet and Garden, B&K Gardens, or at the door, if seats are still available.
