Bus rider risk a concern

Re: “Safety concerns spur change to Roberts Creek bus route,” Feb. 7.

Living on Flume Road and on my walks around the district I see the people waiting for the bus to Sechelt. Among these people are young mothers with buggies and toddlers. I see young children and others, of course, including seniors.

What really concerns me is that the change of route for No. 1 bus requires all of those people to have a very long walk to the top of Flume. This includes residents of Beach Avenue. After the walk uphill they have to find a way to scurry across the highway, to go to and from Sechelt.

It begs the question as to whether it is more dangerous for the bus or for those vulnerable people to constantly have to cross the highway without any help. Is the bus more important than the safety of humans or will it take somebody’s precious family member to be killed?

I see the drivers’ problems, but then all of us have had the same problem for years with nothing being done. The drivers do a great job as ambassadors for the Coast and are great at their job driving the bus.

I only hope the people at SCRD can see the dangers. Maybe they should take a drive and see how they would like their loved ones crossing and recrossing that awful highway.
