Roberts Creek: Fundraiser Saturday for Legion floor

Vancouver’s Killing Floor Blues Band comes out swinging Friday, Feb. 21 to the RC Legion.

Vancouver’s Killing Floor Blues Band comes out swinging Friday, Feb. 21 to the RC Legion. Giving a musical nod to Howlin’ Wolf, Otis Rush, Magic Sam and Jimmy Reed, their version of Chicago electric blues takes you back to the birth of rock and roll, to a time when blues was king. This will be a killer night on the floor. Music starts at 9 p.m. Members $8, guests $15.

Saturday night at the #219, git out on da floor ‘cause we need a new floor! It’s Trigger Warning! My man HOL4GR4M will be joining forces with Deano, little d and Mieke J to put “our old living room floor” to another test in this fundraiser for an upgrade to an essential piece of our local. There will be a 50/50 draw and other surprises! Oh, if these floors could talk … Saturday, Feb. 22. Doors at 9 p.m. Members $8, guests $15 suggested amount; if you can pay more, you are killing it!

Anna Lumière et Noah Ord give us an evening of musique francophone! Soirée at the Gumboot Café! Friday, Feb. 21, hosted by La Société Culturelle Francophone de la Côte du Soleil, 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. Sortez et passez un bon moment, $15 public $10 members of SCFCS, info@scfcs.ca.

Sometimes we feel helpless in the face of the troubles in the world and look for ways to assist our fellow humans. One opportunity is the 2020 Homeless Count. On March 6, volunteers will be gathering vital info on our homeless population to better understand and serve the needs of these people. If you are compassionate, with a friendly, non-judgmental attitude and a good sense of humour, here is a place you can make a difference. Email Ele to get involved ele_molnar@sunshine.net. Everyone needs help from time to time, and it’s time we helped in any way we can.

Our local Roberts Creek Scout Troop #6 has a Torchlight Parade Saturday, Feb. 22 at 6 p.m. from SC Self Storage to St. Bartholomew’s Church. They will be collecting non-perishable food for St. Bart’s Food Bank along the parade route so put a bag of canned goods in the car and you will be ready for it! (I was a Scout for five years. Let’s give them our support.)

I mentioned Astrocolor is at the Hall next Saturday but I didn’t mention DJs Jason Whyte and DJ Sugar, with lighting and visuals by Operation Honeybee! Feb. 29, 8 p.m., 19+, $25 at MELOmania, The Kube, Strait Music and www.Share-There.com.

Every Tuesday Arbutus Sounds has a women’s a capella chorus rehearsal, singing four-part harmony at Roberts Creek Elementary. New members welcome, 6:45 to 9 p.m. Call 604-885-2923 for more. Also Tuesday, ADD hosts jam night at the #219 and on Wednesday we have markets at both halls and live music at the restaurant. I love that I can just say “the restaurant” and most everyone knows what I mean. I tell people I live near “The Penn”…
