Pender Harbour & Egmont: How lucky we are to be here

In these challenging days, a sentiment that echoes through the Harbour is how very lucky we are to be here.

In these challenging days, a sentiment that echoes through the Harbour is how very lucky we are to be here. We have responsible retailers and services providing us with our needs and instantly following the guidelines put forth by public health authorities. Workers in the health services industry – you are heroic, going above and beyond. We appreciate all of you and thank you is just not enough to say. To quote Arnold Schwarzenegger: “You are the true action heroes.”

With events and activities cancelled and suspended until further notice, a few annual hallmark events have had many inquires, one being April Tools, April 25, which has been cancelled until next year’s event. The Pender Harbour Blues Festival, June 5 to 7, at this time is postponed until September. A decision by the board will be made in July for the September date. The AGM for Pender Harbour Community Club is cancelled.

The Pender Harbour Health Centre has volunteers to help those in self-isolation who need supplies. Call 604-883-2764 and visit their Facebook page. Elderdog has volunteers to help with getting your pet out for walks, delivering food and short-term foster care. They’re at elderdog

Our local IGA offers online shopping, as do many other retailers.

There are many new, creative happenings to enjoy such as the Sunshine Coast Quarantined Concert Series launched on March 24 on Facebook by local musician, choir leader and gardening guru Sandy Matches. Delightful!

There are daily updates from government health authorities that clearly state and repeat the guidelines. Please keep up to date and follow the guidelines. We are all in this together and we all must be in it to win it.

Many of us with the unexpected luxury of free time think of friends, acquaintances, family who may be having a tough time with isolation. Reach out with a phone call, text, email and include something, a photo, a memory an e-card to make them smile.

Be safe, healthy and happy. We are in paradise and let’s keep it so.
