FLAIR on the Coast is this Saturday, Oct. 12. They are having an open forum; shared stories – some emotional, some laced with laughter – all help in the journey moving forwards and create awareness that we are not alone. Both men and women in need of cancer support in Pender Harbour and Egmont are welcome to attend, 10 a.m. to noon at the Rockwood Centre in Sechelt. Last Sunday’s jam at The Clubhouse Restaurant with the Steve Hinton band was fantastic! This Sunday, Oct. 14, host entertainer Jim Foster, with Tim Rannard, Sully Antonyk and special guest Simon Paradis will be another outstanding musical event starting at 2 p.m. Enjoy a nice beverage and delicious food. The annual Thanksgiving potluck dinner, Sunday, Oct. 13, is at the Egmont Community Hall at 6 p.m. Bring something to share.

Throughout the week Monday to Friday come enjoy time at The Book Nook. Sit and relax and read or take out something great to read at home.

Pender Harbour Wildlife Society (PHWS) presents Danika Dinsmore, writer, educator and spoken word artist turned activist. She serves on the editorial staff of Reckoning and on the board of Cascadia Poetics, LAB, coproducing this year’s poetry in a time of climate crisis. As affiliate coordinator for the Sunshine Coast Extinction Rebellion, she present XR’s Talk, organizes non-violent direct action, and co-ordinates community building events with an eye toward resiliency. Find out how you can take action on Tuesday, Oct. 15 at 7 p.m. at PH Secondary School. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. This is a free event, all are welcome. Raffle and refreshments, with an Ada Priest painting as a special prize draw in honour of the PHWS 40th year.

Ladies Night Dinner and Dance at the Legion, Saturday, Oct. 19, features Half Cut and the Slackers and the very popular $1,000 Calcutta. Tickets are $60 at the Legion and by calling 604-883-2235.

Devon Hanley will perform Sunday, Oct. 20 at the School of Music. Her sound is spare, but also warm and inviting. Her compositions invite listeners to engage in her beautifully conceived stories of a life lived to the fullest. Tickets $25 at penderharbour.ca, Harbour Insurance and Strait Music.

Pender Harbour Blues Society hosts the 11th annual Halloween Howl and Costume Extravaganza with Gary Comeau and The Voodoo Allstars on Saturday, Oct. 26, 8 p.m. at the Hall. Get your tickets early; it’s always a sellout. The costume competition will be fierce and the music amazing. Tickets on sale now at Java Docks, Strait Music and www.phblues.ca.

Thank you to all who made the PHCC Fall Faire an enormous success. A Pender Harbour annual celebration is back. The sun shone and my wish came true!
