Pender Harbour & Egmont: Concert series begins

The Pender Harbour Music Society’s concert series starts 2020 with a jazz concert by the Andrea Superstein Quartet this Sunday, Jan. 19, 2 p.m. at the School of Music. “Jazz vocalist with a lush voice and smoky delivery” who pays homage to the legendary ladies of jazz: Lena, Peggy, Ella. Tickets $25 available at Harbour Insurance, Strait Music and www.penderharbourmusic.ca.

Sunday Jam this week at The Clubhouse headlines the fantastic Peter Van Trio, with music from 2 to 6 p.m. Admission by donation. Come enjoy the fun, the food, the drinks and great music. Talented folks, come and perform a song or two for the very appreciative audience. 

The Pender Harbour Literacy Crawl runs Monday to Friday, Jan. 20 to 24. Drop in at any of the venues and take part in the activity. Check out Pender Harbour Community School Facebook page for updates.

The Community School Open House featuring Harbour Publishing is Wednesday, Jan. 22, noon to 2 p.m. All are welcome. 

Pender Harbour Wildlife Society will be showing the movie Rainforest: Limit of Splendour, Jan. 21 at 7 p.m. at PH Secondary School. See story on page 18.

Pender Harbour and District Chamber of Commerce AGM is Wednesday, Jan. 22 at noon at the Fuse Community Workhub in the Harbour Spirit Centre. 

An “It’s Not Right” workshop will be hosted by the Community Response Network and Connecting Garden Bay Project, Wednesday, Jan. 22, 1 to 3 p.m. at Sarah Wray Hall, 4334 Irvines Landing Rd. Join facilitators April Struthers, Vicki Dobbyn and Caron Hawrychuk, and learn to recognize the warning signs and risk factors of senior abuse, hold supportive conversations and where to find help. Harbourside Friendship Thursday, Jan. 23 will be part of Literacy Week and you can come join the fun and play Jeopardy. Doors at the Hall open at 10:30 a.m. Lunch served at noon.  

Pender Harbour Legion presents their 44th annual Celebration of the Life of Robert Burns, Saturday, Jan. 25. Entertainment by the Coast String Fiddlers and Coast Pipe Bands. Tickets $40 at Harbour Insurance and the Legion. 

At the Legion every Friday starting at 7 p.m., enjoy the acoustic jam hosted by Eddy Endrik. Come early for a fish and chips dinner starting at 5 p.m. followed by the music of aspiring local talent.
