Pender Harbour & Egmont: Chamber Music this weekend

Pender Harbour Music Society presents an exciting weekend of classical music, the Mid-Winter Chamber Music Weekend, Feb. 22 and 23, with Sea to Sky performers Joan Blackman, violin; François Houle, clarinet; and Jane Hayes, piano.

Pender Harbour Music Society presents an exciting weekend of classical music, the Mid-Winter Chamber Music Weekend, Feb. 22 and 23, with Sea to Sky performers Joan Blackman, violin; François Houle, clarinet; and Jane Hayes, piano. Each concert offers a different repertoire by these exceptional musicians. Concerts both days are at 2 p.m. at the School of Music. The Sunday Jam at the Clubhouse is both a musical and social event enjoyed by all. Simon Paradis, Boyd Norman and Tim Rannard were fantastic last week as were the jammers. This Sunday, 2 to 6 p.m., the very popular and fabulous Steve Hinton Band will be heating up the house! The food is great, hospitality top drawer and a good time guaranteed. Admission by donation. Tickets are on sale now for the PHBS Spring Dance, April 11. Yes, better than the Easter bunny coming to town, Brickhouse will be here. This is a rare performance you don’t want to miss! Tickets $30 at www.phblues.ca, Harbour Insurance and Strait Music. This event is a fundraiser for the PH Blues Festival June 5 to 7. 

Harbourside Friendships Thursday, Feb. 27 will be all about games and discussions. Come to The Hall for coffee at 10:30 a.m., then the fun begins. Lunch is served at noon, $10. 

Bingo is every Thursday night at Pender Harbour Community Hall. Bring your friends and have some fun – and maybe go home with a pocket full of cash! Doors open at 5:30 p.m. Early bird game at 6:30 p.m. 

The Pender Harbour Community School has classes on Vietnamese cooking with Chef Marcus Thursday, March 12, 6 p.m. at PHSS Foods Room. Standard First Aid Course is March 12, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Registration is required: 604-883-2826.

Drop-in sports at PHSS include pickleball, Tuesdays and Thursdays, 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., $7 drop-in fee; hockey for boys Grade 10 and over, Tuesdays 7:30 to 9:30 p.m., $3 drop-in fee; and volleyball for ages 11 and over Wednesdays, 7 to 8:30 p.m., $3 drop-in fee. 

Pawsitively Pender Harbour, March 7, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. in downtown Madeira Park is a celebration and fundraiser for animals. This event has evolved over six years from a Cupcake Day to include many non-profit rescues as well as the BCSPCA , Gibsons Wildlife, Elderdog, TDIAO and more. There will be delicious baked goodies for all, No Flea Flee Market, pet items, art, jewelry and information. Kira Sufalko from Elderdog (Canada) will be on hand to provide information on this fantastic program helping seniors with their pets on the Coast. Upcycling Expo is coming to Pender Harbour hosted by Seniors Initiative, Saturday, April 4, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at The Hall. The event will provide an opportunity to share ways to recycle and repurpose items in a social, creative get together of all ages. Workshops include putting in a zipper, sewing buttons, mending, hemming, making pet beds and toys, and woodworking with Plumb Bob. More to come.
